KING'S CEMETERY, SATO, ILLINOIS

King's Cemetery is located in Ora Township, Section 20 (see map). Although no longer active, the cemetery is well preserved.

The transcription is a combination of efforts by ©Helen Williams, ©Susan Cook and ©Sue Reed.  A few dates were verified from ©Rex Franklin's transcription.  We have tried to include any additional information that we might have had, concerning dates, parents, etc.  Helen did most of the dates you will find here,  as well as the death records that correspond with this cemetery, and I wish to THANK HER very much for donating those to us!

This is an older cemetery, used in the 1800's and early 1900's as a "neighborhood" cemetery.  Many of the people buried here, lived near each other and knew each other well. They shared good times and bad, illness, births, deaths and marriages. This cemetery has become very important to me, as my 4th great grandparents are buried here, along with some of their other family members and friends.

Many of the stones are illegible, and the problem seems to be growing worse. Several people are in unmarked graves, and try as I might, I haven't been able to find any record of all the burials that took place here.  Since it is in an open field, weather seems to be taking it's toll on  most of the stones.  Someone does take loving care to be sure the grass is cut here, and to them, I say thank you!  We have since been notified the thank you goes out to Gale and Patsy Graver (thank you Steve Grace). They have mowed the cemetery for years and have received nothing for it, but their personal gratification.

Directions from Ava - Go east on Rt. 4 to Sugar Hill Road. Turn north (left) and go one and one quarter (1 1/4) miles to Sugar Hill Road. The cemetery sits on your right, on the curve.

The names below are from the legible stones. Below that you will find a link to the people who are listed on the National Archives Roll Of Honor microfilm and buried in Kings Cemetery.  Each of the names there, at one time, had a military stone. Below that, you will find a link to The Sato Baptist Church, which many of these people attended and to the Death Records for some of the people buried in Kings Cemetery, several of whom are not listed here.  If you have any additonal information on any of these people, please let me know.  Email me at:
